Our story begins on a little site called Plenty of Fish .. and yes, there are plenty of fish in the great big sea of online dating. Patience is a virtue that many fisherman have, and I was almost at the end of my line. Four years ago, during the chilly month of December, Jason chose to message me. "Is that a pitbull in your photo?", he asked. Jason was never one for pick up lines; for that, I am grateful. An honest and sincere start to an genuine and cherished relationship. Halo and Tyson brought us together. If it wasn't for our shared love of dogs, he may have never messaged me that day. Tyson was a good boy, and although he died at an early age, we understand even more now why he came into Jason's life. We will never forget him, and will always keep a special place in our heart for Halo.

After two weeks of getting to know each other online through a series of emojis, online texts, and facebook posts, we were finally ready to meet each other. Quality time with family and friends over the Christmas holiday season was interrupted with a series of consistent texts; "What are you up to? Did you have a good Christmas? What's Jigg's dinner?" We're quite certain that year our family and friends were ready for us to put our phones away.

Finally, on January 1, 2013, I was invited to Jason's home. I'll still never know how I had the courage (or the stupidity) to drive 50 km away from my home, in the dark, by myself, to man's house whom I've never met. They say, "you miss 100% of the chances you never take"; this decision proved to be well worth the risk. Thankfully, I was greeted by a normal, handsome man, a beautiful Bernese Mountain dog and the smell of fresh banana bread.

The rest is history ...
