Bride

Tyler and I had been planning for our special 5 year anniversary for months (seeing as how it was a huge milestone, we wanted to have a special celebration). Little did I know how special this day was really going to be. We had planned to take the day off (it was a Tuesday) and we were going to travel down to Baltimore. We had decided we'd first go to the Baltimore Aquarium (I LOVE the aquarium!) Then, we had planned to have a nice dinner on the pier afterwards.

The night before, as we finalized details and made sure everything we needed was packed, Tyler became very concerned about whether or not the camera was charged and packed. I replied "Why would we need it? We have cameras in our phones". He hastily replied "better quality pictures." I had thought it was strange, seeing as how I usually have to beg him to take pictures any other time, but I said "OK" and packed the camera.

The morning of June 16, 2015, we printed out our tickets, which (to my horror) had the incorrect date on it. I began to panic and get upset, but Tyler calmed me down and said "It's ok, we can give them a call to see if we can fix it. If not, we'll buy more tickets. Don't you worry. Today will be perfect". Luckily, the customer service at the aquarium understood and told us they would replace the tickets for the correct date. Crisis averted!

And so we began our 1 hour drive that morning, making sure to leave early enough to find parking and to exchange the tickets. We had about 30 minutes to spare, once the ticket situation was squared away. So we decided to walk further down the pier and sat on a bench, which had a great view of the harbor. It was a beautiful, sunny day (although it was a bit windy). We sat there, took some pictures, and then made our way into the building to begin our tour of the aquarium!

We walked around all the different sections, taking a million pictures of all different marine animals, as well as taking multiple selfies to commemorate the day. We stopped to listen to the educational talk about the Blacktip reef sharks, and walked through multiple levels of that exhibit. We also got to touch the tops of jellyfish! We were having a blast commenting on the different things we saw. Toward the end, we made our way over to the dolphin exhibit. As we were sitting there holding hands, listening to the educator talk about taking care of the dolphins, and watching the dolphins do various tricks, I noticed that Tyler seemed to be shaking, ever so slightly (like he was nervous or anxious). I couldn't figure out for the life of me why. So I asked him if he was ok, and he assured me everything was great.

After the dolphin exhibit, we toured the remainder of the aquarium. We then found ourselves at the huge window overlooking the harbor. We stood for a moment and watched as the people below paddled around in the Chessie paddle boats. The day had been so amazing, and we were already looking forward to our romantic anniversary dinner. Tyler then looked over to me and said, "We should get someone to take a picture of us! We've been taking selfies all day!", and before I could say anything, he disappeared around the corner. He returned a moment later with a teen girl and her parents. He came up to me, put his arm around me and smiled. We took the picture in front of that giant window with the harbor in the background.

He then said to the girl, "Wait! One more!", and looked at me and said "Kayla, you know how much I love you". He then proceeded to bend down reaching toward his pocket, fumbled with the button a moment, and pulled out a small black velvet box. I gasped. He then got down on one knee, and opened the box to reveal a beautiful solitaire diamond. He then asked me to marry him!

I can't remember if I even let him finish the sentence, before I shouted out "YES!!"

The people around us clapped and congratulated us. It was the most perfect moment in time.
