How Kris proposed
We had gone away to a cottage for Labor Day Weekend at Lake Commanda Resort. Kris and Melanie, along with Steve, Trish, Kai and Carey. We were having a terrific weekend. Enjoying good friends, good food, a big hot tub and a beautiful setting. The weather hadn't been too great but we were all still having fun.
On Sunday we all went for a long hike and Wow! What incredible scenery. On the hike back to the car, the thought briefly crossed my mind "well I guess Kris won't be proposing this weekend" but it quickly passed and I continued to enjoy our hike.
Later that night, Kris asked me if I wanted to go for a walk and check out the stars because they were amazing up there with the clear sky and no city lights!
We walked around the camp for a while and then we made our way down to the dock. We were sitting there admiring the stars when Kris mentioned how special and wonderful this weekend had been. I agreed. He took a deep breath and told me he had been doing some thinking. He seemed so nervous! My response was "are you breaking up with me?" He laughed and said that what he had actually been thinking was that "the only way he could think of to make this weekend even more perfect was to ask me if I would be his wife" and he pulled out a ring box! I was so caught off guard that all I could do was cry and ask "really?".
He asked me if that was a yes? I said YES! He then yelled out "she said yes" and all of a sudden fireworks started going off from our beachfront cottage! Being out on the dock, we had the perfect spot to watch them. It was really spectacular. I put the ring on as Kris was trying to shine the flashlight on it so I could see it.
We went back to the cottage where everyone had champagne waiting for us (in coffee mugs I might add, very cottage). Carey, Steve Trish and Kai were all involved with the "event" and celebrated with us. I am so happy they were all there to share our joy. I can't thank them enough for everything they did. From hiding a ring, champagne and fireworks all weekend, to setting them up, to warning the neighbours, to washing coffee mugs last minute so we could all have a glass. Thank you.
It truly was a perfect weekend. Kris thinks it was hilarious that I thought he was breaking up with me...chuckling that it would have been a really awkward drive home. Yep, it would have been! The thing is - I don't even remember the drive home because I was too busy admiring the gorgeous ring he had made just for me!
