HER:
We've both been down many "Broken Roads" that led to our union... Paul was playing guitar for a Phil Collins & Genesis cover band; My sister & I were out for some music & dancing. After the show, Paul & the boys in the band were hanging out so we started talking. My birth town team is the Pittsburgh Steelers; so when this guy walks up to me & says "My name's Paul & I'm from the United State of Texas". I stayed true to the old rivalry with the Cowboys & replied "I'm so sorry"; insulted him immediately!
He took the challenge & stayed. We chatted until sun up, had breakfast, always a gentleman. Honestly, I didn't expect I'd hear from the "touring musician". Especially after he said "I just changed phone services, so this number isn't working yet". A few days later I get this call from California, it's HIM! He asked if I was going to his show that weekend; I did & we spent the next 3 days together.
The man had no fear, within 3 weeks of us meeting, he met my Mom, Dad & best friend all at once. Within 6 weeks Paul moved to Vegas, we've been blissful ever since.
HIM:
Oh yes, I did have fear! Fear this wonderful person I met & spent hours talking with would slip away. After that first meeting & subsequent long conversation, I had to return home. I thought about her all the way home, couldn’t get her off of my mind. I remember thinking I need to call, not seem too eager but not seem an afterthought; to call right before my return the following weekend. So I waited, not really knowing what I would say; I felt like a teenager courting his first love.
Somehow I built up the courage to call. We chatted a bit & I casually asked if she would be at our show. It was hard to stay “casual”, hiding my joy when she said “sure, I’ll be there”. She had a hold on me EVEN after insulting my home state of Texas (she's forgiven). I remember thinking keep it casual, don’t scare her away by letting her know you're smitten. Just wait until you get back & if she shows up, act calm. My excitement at seeing her again got the better of me; I called the next day, emailed her, & called a few more times on the drive to Vegas.
When I saw her at the show, I knew I wanted her at every show, the next day, the night, the morning. I wanted to be with her as much as she would allow & more. A few weeks later, I told her so & to my delight, she expressed the same sentiment. I fell in REAL love & that leads us to this day.
