After graduating from Fayetteville State University, Kelnisha had two options - she could pursue one of her dreams of becoming a broadcast journalist in Atlanta, or she could take a full-time job offer with the North Carolina Air National Guard in Charlotte of which she had been a member of for 10 years. She chose the latter, but little did she know, that decision would lead her to the man of her dreams.

Kelnisha moved to Charlotte, NC in March of 2014. After a few months on the Charlotte social scene and a few incompatible dating matches, she decided she would take a break from dating. That year she attended a singles weekend retreat in Asheville, Tenessee. During that trip she received clarity on what she wanted in a mate and decided she would wait for her perfect match.

Upon her return she found a Direct Message on Instagram from Curtis under his business profile. Kelnisha thought it was an opportunity to give to charity as she loves to help others. She enthusiastically responded to Curtis' email asking if there was any way she could help the organization. His response was "Well actually, I was just wondering if I could take you to dinner?" She blushed and accepted his offer, but she realized that after 3 days of talking on the phone with him, she had never seen his face! Curtis shared his personal profile with Kel and oh yes, she thought he was handsome so she agreed to meet him for dinner at a Japanese restaurant on South Boulevard in Charlotte called Nikkos. It was that evening they fell in love.

In the summer of 2014, Curtis hosted an event in uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. Not wanting to socialize, he stayed behind the scenes. A few days later he received the event pictures from his photographer.  While going through the images he noticed a gorgeous, short haired young lady that he had never seen before. He was immediately intrigued by her beauty and wondered if he would see her again.

After posting pictures on his business social media accounts, Kelnisha's friends tagged her to the pictures of them.  From there he was able to check her out further by viewing her social media page. Later he noticed she followed his non-profit account too, but not his personal page.

A few months later, he was relaxing in his room and her Instagram page popped up on his non-profit feed. With little hesitation, he sent her a DM (direct message) via Instagram asking her to contact him. This is how the conversation went:

"Hi! This is Kel complying with an Instagram message. By the way, I love what your organization is doing for the community. Keep up the good work! I hope this email will lead to opportunities for me to assist in any way I can.

Best regards,
Kel"

His response was,

"Thank you! We are blessed to have the support from the community over the years. This journey has been AMAZING.

To be direct, I am interested in possibly going out for lunch or dinner in the near future. Would you be interested?

Here's my cell – (704) xxx-xxxx"

From there they conversed over a week before Kelnisha realized she didn’t know what Curtis looked like (she only followed his business accounts that didn’t have his face or name associated to them). She politely asked for a picture. He shared with her his personal Instagram and she decided to continue their engagement.

A few days later, they connected for their first date. He chose Nikkos Japanese Restaurant in South End. The key things Curtis remembered from the first date were the range of their conversation, the little things she did, and her beauty.  He knew there was something special about this young lady and from there the journey began.
