Bride

It all started when Edwin asked my parents out to dinner to ask for my hand in marriage! He was so nervous/excited that he could barely eat. Once gaining both my parents blessings, Edwin got to work and did a great job at keeping everything a secret. From the visits to the jeweler to planning the perfect proposal, I did not suspect a thing.

We boarded the plane on Decemeber 20th 2015, for what I thought would be a regular family vacation back to the motherland but little did I know that I was in for the surprise of my life. Edwin had involved all my family from back home and planned the perfect proposal for Decemeber 28th. At first the proposal was very intimate, just he and I on the roof top of a condo under the beautiful clear skies of Medellin. As I stepped onto the rooftop, music began to play and he asked me to dance. We danced the entire song at which point I simply buried my face into his shoulder and sobbed like a little girl because it was right then and there that I realized, "Oh My Gosh, this is actually happening right now!" Once the song was over, Edwin got down on one knee and said the magical words, "Will You Marry Me?" and of course I said, "YES!!" A big thank you to my brother, Danny and cousin, Felipe for recording everything as it all unfolded.

Once I wiped away the tears of happiness, we quickly jumped into a cab and made our way to my cousins 'birthday party.' Once we arrived, a live band began to play the song we danced to on the rooftop and queue the happy tears again. Edwin along with  my family worked together and planned a surprise engagement party. It was absolutely amazing and everything I had ever wished for.

A big thank you goes out to all those involved!

And the biggest thank you of all goes out to my ever-so thoughtful and romantic fiancé for making my dream proposal come true!

Groom

It all started when I invited my future in laws out for dinner to get their blessing. Aside from barely eating, I also forgot my shoes at home due to my nerves. I didn’t realize this until I got to the restaurant. Here I am wearing a blazer, dress shirt and nice jeans with old running shoes. Luckily for me I was 30 minutes early and there was a Sears right across the street. I quickly ran in and bought the first pair of shoes I saw. Phew. It was near the end of the night, we had all finished eating by this time and I still hadn’t asked for Andrea’s hand in marriage. I’m sure by this time they were wondering why we were all there. I finally built up the courage to ask and they said YESJ.

Now my mission was to bring the ring on the plane and to Colombia without Andrea finding it. If you know Andrea, you know this is an impossible misson because she is always aware of everything. I decided to place the box with the ring into a sock, then into another sock and into another and in my carry-on luggage. I remember thinking to myself “she will never find it here”. Once at the airport, I was concerned I would be asked about the ring going through the security check point. I waited for Andrea to go through the security check point first, and then I placed my bag through the image scanner. As my bag went through the scanner I noticed the officers eyes open wide so I immediately whispered “it’s a ring”, she smiled and said “good luck”.

Once in Colombia, I handed the ring to Mrs. Delgado to keep it safe and away from Andrea. The proposal consisted of several 2 minute power meetings between Mrs. Delgado and I. Every opportunity we had where Andrea was occupied we used to plan the proposal and engagement party.

The day and moment finally arrived. I remember having the ring in my pocket and we were making our way upstairs to the terrace. As soon as we made it to the roof top a song I selected started playing and we began to dance. It was a beautiful night, with the stars shinning bright and the spectacular 360 degree view of the city. Once the song ended I got down on one knee and asked the woman of my dreams to marry me. She said YES! She was shaking and crying so much that she doesn’t even remember what I said to her before asking her to marry me.

A big thank you goes out to my parents and brothers for all of their support and guidance. They may not have been physically present but they were present in my heart.

To my future mother in-law who helped me with all of the planning and small details that really made the engagement party a big success.

To our photographer/videographer Danny and Felipe.

To my new family in Colombia who helped with decorations and much more.
